BocaSoft WipeOut Version 1.2
BocaSoft Incorporated
117 NW 43rd St.
Boca Raton, FL 33431
INTRODUCTION
------------
BocaSoft WipeOut is a 32 bit screen saver for OS/2 featuring numerous
animated displays integrated with digital audio, password protection, screen
capture, randomizer, and on-line help. A developer kit is included that
allows the development of new savers. WipeOut also provides support for IBM
Ultimotion and Intel Indeo full motion video.
BocaSoft WipeOut requires OS/2 Version 2, a 3.5" floppy disk drive and 2 MB
of disk space. Digital audio or video require MMPM/2, which is included with
OS/2 2.1, and a supported audio card.
The software has been tested on OS/2 2.0 with MMPM/2 1.0 in addition to
OS/2 2.1 with MMPM/2 1.1. A variety of screen resolutions such as 640x480,
800x600, and 1024x768 have been tested. All currently supported audio cards
have been tested including the IBM M-AUDIO, Sound Blaster and Media Vision
Pro-Audio Spectrum.
NEW FUNCTIONS
-------------
Several new capabilities have been added to Version 1.2, they include;
1. Idle Time Animation setting that allows WipeOut to run at a lower priority
to let other applications run better while WipeOut is active.
2. Support for 256 color bitmaps has been added.
3. This version of WipeOut includes support for Berkeley Systems Inc. After
Dark screen saver modules ( .AD ). Modules tested include those from the
After Dark saver, More After Dark, The Star Trek Collection, and the
Disney Collection. MicroSoft Scenes Screen Saver support is included via
the After Dark module but palette problems in OS/2 Seamless cause
distortion in The Scenes images. The After Dark support included in
BocaSoft WipeOut requires that a full After Dark Saver product be install
and resident in the WIN-OS/2 environment on your system.
BocaSoft WipeOut controls and runs After Dark savers in a seamless WIN-OS/2
session. In addition to the WipeOut program, After Dark support requires
that the BocaSoft AD Server program also be running. The BocaSoft AD
Server program must be started before the WipeOut program, if it is not
problems will occur. The BocaSoft AD Server program will automatically
"inject" it self into any common seamless session that is running on your
system, saving resources. If no session is available the Server will
create one when started.
Audio for the After Dark modules is generated from the WIN-OS/2 environment.
You must install the appropriate drivers in your WIN-OS/2 environment to
support your audio card. You may also use the PC Speaker driver in the WIN-
OS/2 session. The driver may be selected in the WipeOut After Dark settings
dialog via the Sound push button. When audio is selected for the After Dark
savers it will prevent audio from being generated on the WipeOut "native"
savers while the After Dark server is running. When the server is exited
audio will be restored for the "native" savers. This is due to the audio
device contention problem associated with MMPM/2 audio devices.
4. WipeOut now supports time-out and hot keys in all OS/2 sessions including
OS/2, DOS, and WIN-OS/2 full Screens. This feature is not available in the
Demo version.
NOTES
-----
1. If you have removed the current directory (.) from your LIBPATH statement
in config.sys problems occur with accessing WipeOut library files.
2. A know problem in the IBM SVGA driver causes font distortion in the
billboard and message shuttle savers.
3. The Ultimotion video portion of MMPM/2 must be installed to run the video
screen saver.
4. MMPM/2 subsystem problems may cause WipeOut to lose audio is some cases.
If this occurs WipeOut should be restarted.
5. In some cases the video subsystem can exhibit a variety of problems
including traps or system hangs. An patch to the MMPM/2 1.1 release for
video is available from IBM for these problems.
6. When running WipeOut on OS/2 Version 2.0, some applications may exit
abnormally. To alleviate this problem start WipeOut with a /H parameter.
7. Ultimotion videos do not appear correct in 16 color mode, such as VGA.
8. If you are running with Idle Time Animation on you may notice that WipeOut
will not animate the screen with certain DOS/VDM applications active.
To allow WipeOut to blank and animate, but still use minimal time slices,
set the DOS application's IDLE_SENSITIVITY setting down to a value of less
than 30.
9. Monochrome bitmaps, that is 1 bit color, are not supported.
10. After Dark support does not include multi-modules.
11. After Dark support requires the BocaSoft AD Server to be started first or
problems will occur when trying to use the mouse on the parent dialog. This
is an OS/2 bug which has been reported to IBM. Simply exit WipeOut, start
the server and restart WipeOut to work around this problem.
12. The After Dark Fireworks saver module does not work at this time.
13. The MIDI Mapper configuration must be setup in WIN-OS/2 to support music/
sound for After Dark modules that use it. Examples include several of the
After Dark Disney Collection Savers.
14. The Confetti Factory saver will have redraw problems after the first time
through.
